Florida and Summer Vacations

We all know Florida is hot in the summer. I also want all my clients to have a stress free vacation! Some things to think about when planning a Summer trip are the weather, your animals health, any special things you do for your pets.

Summer in Florida equals Hurricane season (though it extends beyond official Summer). If there is a storm be sure to communicate what you do with your animals in advance. Likely, you have a plan for your animals be sure to share that with your pet sitter. Your pet sitter wants to take the best possible care of your animals and this includes in an emergency.

This is more focused towards horses but lots of horses stop sweating in Floridas summers. If your horse has a history of this please bring it to the attention of your pet sitter. They will need to keep a special eye on your horses to make sure they aren’t suffering. Also be sure to tell them what to do in an emergency if you are unable to be reached. For example, where thermometers are so they can take the horses temperature after cold hosing or If the temp is over X call the vet.

Having a pet sitter with medical knowledge and a strong attention to detail is important. They can spot issues before it happens or while it is happening. This is everything from overheating to skin fungus.

Also be sure to tell your pet sitter where your stash of medical supplies is. We may need to doctor your animals while you are away. This can be everything from banamine to fungal shampoo. Our goal at Farm and Fetch Pet Care and the goal of other pet sitters is to provide you the best care possible. We love animals and want to ensure your animals are taken care of properly and you can have a stress free vacation!
